Supported Sony Bravia TVs
Coming in an upcoming release: Couch Amp will talk to Sony Bravia TVs the same way it talks to Sony ES receivers — automatic discovery over the network, no box required, plus a TV Remote key pad that reaches through HDMI-CEC to control whatever’s plugged into the active input.
Bravia TVs speak Sony’s Scalar Web API (JSON over HTTP, port 80) across three eras:
- Google TV (2021–present): Bravia XR and Bravia 9/8/7/3 — the API’s current home.
- Android TV (2015–2020): every consumer Bravia in this window ships with it.
- Pre-Android “Scalar” (2013–2014): older sets on the Pre-Shared-Key path — partial support only.
Verified means tested against real hardware; supported means the model shares the same Scalar Web API firmware and is expected to work identically. Only the XBR-55X850C has been verified so far.
Google TV Bravias (2021–2024)
Sony’s higher-end Bravia XR sets use the XR- prefix; entry sets use KD-. For the 2024 lineup Sony dropped the alphanumeric names for BRAVIA 9 / 8 / 7 / 3 and moved every set to a global K- prefix.

Pre-Android “Scalar” Bravias (2013–2014)
These run Sony’s older Linux-based smart-TV firmware, before Android TV arrived on Bravia in 2015. They fall inside the community “2013 and newer” IP-control window but use the older Pre-Shared-Key path and haven’t been tested here — treat them as partial: power, volume, and inputs may respond, but the remote key pad and HDMI-CEC pass-through are unconfirmed on this generation.

Bravia Professional Displays
Sony’s BRAVIA Professional Display line (the FW-/FWD- commercial signage models) runs the same platform and exposes the same Scalar Web API as the consumer sets, so Couch Amp is expected to control them identically. We haven’t listed individual professional model numbers here yet — if you’re running one, the app’s manual IP entry should find it.
Setup
Enabling IP Control
On the TV: Settings → Network → Home Network Setup → IP Control. Turn Authentication to “Normal and Pre-Shared Key” and set a key. Enter that same key in Couch Amp when prompted, and the key pad lights up.
Power, volume, and input switching don’t need any of this — they work as soon as Couch Amp finds the TV on your network.
Why Remote Start matters
Some Bravia TVs drop off the network when they go into eco or low-power standby, which means Couch Amp can’t reach them to send a power-on command. Look for Remote Start (sometimes listed under the same Home Network Setup screen) and turn it on if you want to power the TV on from the app rather than just off.
Control your Apple TV through the TV
Because Couch Amp sends key presses exactly like the Bravia’s own remote, the TV forwards navigation and playback keys over HDMI-CEC to whatever’s active on the current input — your Apple TV, Fire TV, or game console. Point your phone at the TV and you’re driving the box behind it, with no separate pairing or app.
Don’t see your TV?
If your Bravia has IP Control in its network settings, there’s a good chance Couch Amp can talk to it — the app probes the same Scalar Web API used by the receivers. Older pre-Android “Scalar” sets from 2013–2014 may only get partial support; the key pad and CEC pass-through are unverified on that generation. Get in touch or try the manual IP entry in the app’s Find TV screen.
