Couch Amp is built the way a remote control should be: it talks to your receiver over your own network, and that’s it. This page explains exactly what the app does and doesn’t do with data.
The short version
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No analytics or tracking. The app contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind.
- No cloud. Commands go from your phone to your receiver over your local network. Nothing about your listening, your receiver, or you is sent to us or anyone else.
- We don’t collect anything. Couch Amp has no servers to send data to.
What stays on your device
The app stores its settings locally on your phone, and only there:
- Saved receivers — the name, model, and network address of receivers you have connected to, so the app can reconnect quickly.
- Your pre-shared key, if your receiver’s authentication is enabled and you entered one.
- App preferences and your unlock status.
Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Your local network
Couch Amp asks for local network access because that is how it finds and controls your receiver — using Sony’s Audio Control API on current models and Sony’s External Control protocol on classic STR-DA / STR-ZA models. Discovery probes only well-known receiver control ports on your own network. No network information leaves your device.
Purchases
The one-time full unlock is processed entirely by Apple’s App Store or Google Play. We never see your payment details. The app only checks with the store whether the unlock has been purchased.
Siri, Shortcuts, and automation
Siri phrases, Shortcuts actions, launcher shortcuts, and couchamp:// URLs
run on your device and send commands directly to your receiver, the same as
tapping the app. No voice data or automation activity is sent to us.
Diagnostics you choose to share
The Validate Receiver tool in Settings builds a report describing your receiver’s API capabilities (model name, firmware version, and the commands it supports — nothing about you). It is shared only if you choose to send it — for example, by emailing it to support to help us add or improve support for your model. Nothing is ever sent automatically.
This website and the forum
couchamp.com is a static site hosted on GitHub Pages; GitHub may keep standard web server logs (GitHub’s privacy statement). The community forum is hosted by FreeFlarum and has its own optional account system (FreeFlarum’s privacy policy). The site itself uses no analytics or tracking cookies.
Changes
If the app ever changes how it handles data, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date, before any such version ships.
